It’s OK to hate social media (sometimes)

You don’t have to love social media marketing, but you do have to love your business! Sometimes you just want to do what you’re good at without thinking about the content you can create from it – and actually, in the long run, I believe you’ll benefit your social media strategy by giving yourself that space.

Taking a break is OK

I talk about social media consistency a lot, and I love sharing the benefits of doing a little bit every single day. Spending small amounts of time on your social media marketing is going to be easier and more powerful than spending a full day on it and then logging out for a few months.

But I also totally get that’s not always possible. I suffer from chronic migraines and I have days where even looking at a screen isn’t possible – so social media marketing is definitely not my top priority.

In fact, I believe that taking a social media break can be so important that even the workbook I created to help you with your consistency is purposefully designed to allow you to take a break!

Ignoring the ‘rules’ is OK

There’s actually very little you ‘should’ be doing with social media – but there’s so much you ‘could’ do! All the tips and tricks I share are about helping you reach more people and about getting those people to become customers… but what if you stopped working towards that goal for a little while?

Social media marketing can be exhausting, and sometimes it can really help you and your business to temporarily take a step back from the marketing. Focus on what you’re passionate about, connect with like minded people and enjoy spending some time on your accounts without setting any goals or expectations.

If you want to make this more of a long-term plan, let’s have a chat about part-management so you can focus on all the aspects you do enjoy while I worry about the marketing side!

Remember you are in control

When we’re focused solely on the marketing side of social media, the algorithm becomes the guard we’re trying to get around – but actually the algorithm is our friend! It’s trying to fill your feed with content you’ll be interested in and avoid showing you thinks you’ll just want to scroll past. The truth is that most people aren’t on social media to see salesy posts or updates about small businesses.

My point is, if your feed is full of negativity, sad posts and uninteresting things, you’ve got the power to change that. Actively search for what you do want to see and the algorithm will quickly learn. Remember that you don’t owe anyone a follow and only following someone if you’re genuinely interested will actually do them a favour!

Thanks for reading! I share a blog like this one every other Tuesday, and if you feel like they help your social media presence, and more importantly, your business – then please consider leaving a tip.

Every time this tip jar reaches £15, I’ll run a giveaway on social media so a small business can access my membership group for two months.
