Get your social media ready for a holiday

You want to enjoy your holiday without worrying about your social media posts – especially if Internet isn’t guaranteed! But you also don’t want to drop your social media consistency and come home to more on your to-do list. So how do you manage it?

Before you go

  1. Plan your content with your holiday in mind. Not every form of content can be scheduled, so make sure you avoid these for the time you’re away. For example, on Instagram, you can’t schedule a collaborative post or a post tagging your products.
  2. Schedule all your posts, not only for the time you’re away but for a few days afterwards as well. You want to enjoy your holiday without worrying that creating content is at the top of your to-do list when you get home.
  3. Set an instant reply so that anyone who messages you while you’re away knows they might not get an immediate reply from you. If they can access support, FAQs or get in touch with a co-worker who doesn’t manage the social media account, make sure this instant message directs people to the appropriate place.

If you’re already feeling like you don’t have time to do this before you go away, get in touch and I can do it for you.

While you’re away

  1. Set yourself one very small goal for each day. This could be to post a Story, to check-in with a group, to check comments on your posts, to comment on one post, etc.
  2. Post when/if you want. You’ve already scheduled enough content but that doesn’t mean you can’t share share a quick selfie or a quick anecdote if you want to.
  3. Enjoy your holiday! You’ve done the prep work, you don’t owe your audience anything, you don’t need to feel guilty for having some time ‘away’ from social media.

If you want to do small tasks on a daily basis, whether you’re away or not, check out ‘Ace Your Media‘ – the workbook guiding you through a whole year of social media consistency.

Once you’re home

  1. Make sure you haven’t missed anything. Double check that every DM has been replied to and that you haven’t left a conversation midway through.
  2. Focus on engaging. Yes, creating your next load of posts is important, but actually it’s having those conversations and being visible in people’s notifications that’s been left aside while you were away.
  3. Remove or edit your Instant Reply. This isn’t a tool that’s exclusively beneficial when you’re away but the goal when you’re not away is actually to reassure people that they can expect a prompt reply from you.

Time away from social media can often lead to new ideas or uncertain goals. If you want to discuss the best way forwards, book a 1-2-1 Powerhour with me here.
