Social Media: What’s Your Strong Suit?

Among all the rules, algorithm hacks, and consistency challenges, it’s easy to get lost in what everyone else is doing and in what you’re told you “should” be doing. It’s easy to forget that social media is more than a marketing tool; it’s a social space that’s designed for entertainment.

I believe that although there is a lot you can do, there is only one thing you “should” do: have some fun with it! And if you think that’s not possible, then I’d say you simply haven’t found a way that works for you – yet!

So what do you actually enjoy about social media?

The creativity

Whether that’s creating images on Canva, putting Reels together or making your Instagram Grid look cool, social media can be an amazing space to use as a creative outlet.

If you love this – remember to lean into that strength. Don’t limit your creativity with what you think is expected from you, forget about fitting in and focus on sharing the same message in as many different ways as you can think of.

If you struggle with this – remember that repurposing content is not lazy. Once you’ve created an image or video, don’t be afraid to post it multiple times. For example, the same image with a review on could be used to promote the service in one post, to talk about your approach in another and to celebrate your clients in another.

The conversations

Social media is a space that allows you to connect with like-minded people wherever and whenever. It can be hard to find people who really care about the things you do, and social media can be the perfect space to come together.

If you love this – remember that you don’t have to start every conversation. Go out and look for conversations already happening, challenge yourself to leave a comment on every post you ‘like’. It’s OK to post less if you’re spending that time chatting with your target audience or in a space where they can see it.

If you struggle with this – pick one space that you enjoy spending time in and focus on that. That could be a Facebook Group, a creator you love or a specific keyword you search for. Be intentional, set a timer, and avoid doom scrolling.

The organisation

For those of us who love planning all the details, social media allows you to line everything up, to stick to a strict schedule and see it all set out in front of you!

If you love this – create that plan, schedule those posts way ahead of time and remember that you replan it as many times as you need to.

If you struggle with this – remember that a social media plan doesn’t have to be strict. It can be as vague as: “Some posts this week focused on the blog”, which gives you direction while still giving you the space to create what you feel like at the time.

The puzzle

Every social media platform gives you detailed insights so you can figure out what works, what doesn’t and what patterns are starting to form. I personally love this because it’s essentially giving you all the pieces, and you get to figure out how they all fit together.

If you love this – learn what’s working for you and focus on that!

If you struggle with this – focus on what you enjoy most! 90% of the time, that’s what gets the best results anyway.
