Your social media might not be ready to join trends

Social media marketing isn’t all about jumping on trends. I mean, don’t get me wrong, hopping on a trend can give you a great boost in reach and followers – but that doesn’t necessarily mean you make any more sales!

If one post went viral, would it help?

Jumping on trends is, in my opinion, one of the most accessible ways of going viral. If you take a moment to look back on the last post you shared and imagine that it went viral… what would happen?

You would see a massive spike in your reach, and that could temporarily have a positive impact on your future posts. More eyes on your business is never a bad thing – but what’s making them stay? You’ve got to give them a reason to follow you!

Want to find out more about giving your audience a reason to follow you? I wrote a blog about it, check it out!

3 signs your social media is ready to join trends

  1. You’re consistently posting valuable posts for your audience.
  2. Your engagement rate (total engagement divided by total reach, and multiplied by 100 to get a percentage) is consistently higher than 3%.
  3. Your follower count is consistently growing.

Yes, consistency really is key!

Forget about trends that don’t align with you

Your social media presence is yours!

Don’t let anyone (even me!) tell you what you can and can’t post.

If you’re on my mailing list, you’ll know that I love Awareness/National days and send them to you every single week. That doesn’t mean you have to talk about them. I like to think of them as topical inspiration; if you talk about them, you might reach someone who’s already thinking about it. That’s too many ifs and maybes to create content that doesn’t align with your business!

Trends are the same. There’s no point in that spike in your reach if you’re reaching people by sharing content that doesn’t feel right to you.

And if you’re not on my mailing list, let’s change that! I’ll only send you one email per week, and it’ll be full of tips and inspiration. Sign up here!

Do you have the foundations?

Let’s say that your post led to a sudden increase in new followers – are you ready to stay at the front of their mind? Have you got the foundations in place to make sure they don’t press that ‘unfollow’ button?

I don’t think you need to make any drastic changes to your social media strategy. I believe that some tweaks, some answers, some determination and some accountability will make all the difference!

I can send you four emails over a four-month period with personalised suggestions and support. That’s four months to ask me anything and four months where I’ll give you feedback on what you’re already doing and suggest small changes you can make that have a big impact!
