Have you ever read or watched a post on social media that really moved you, that really resonated with you, that made you want more… but you didn’t know what ‘more’ looked like? That’s where a call to action comes in!
One simple sentence at the end of your post can make it easy for your audience while making sure your post really lands. So what action do you want your audience to take after consuming this post?
Engage with the post
Getting engagement on your posts is always good; it can help you not feel like you’re talking into the void while telling the algorithm that your content is grabbing people’s attention. But as a user, engaging with posts isn’t always easy – what do you even say? So let’s make it as easy as possible for them with some repetition and a direct request.
Here’s an example:
- Before: “Social media is a powerful tool, but a very long game. I’ve had people follow me for years before reaching out! Have you noticed that?”
- After: “Has someone ever followed you for years on social media before reaching out? Social media is a powerful tool, but a very long game. Has this ever happened to you? I’d love to hear your story – let me know in the comments!”
The same message. The same goal. Just easier for you to know what to say!

Engagement doesn’t always mean comments. In fact, the most popular form of engagement on Instagram is to send a post to a friend via DM – and you can encourage them to do that too!
Continue the chat with you
Social media is all about conversations and, to be honest, it doesn’t really matter where those conversations are happening. In your comment section, in someone else’s comment section, or even in private! And some conversations are best to have in private – but again, you want to make it as easy as possible for your audience to take that step.
Here’s an example:
- Before: “Social media marketing doesn’t have to be overwhelming – get in touch to find out more.”
- After: “Social media marketing doesn’t have to be overwhelming. But if you ever feel that way, just send me a quick “I’m overwhelmed!” message, and I’ll point you in the right direction.“
The same message. The same goal. Just easier for you to feel safe!
On Instagram, you can actually set four questions as FAQs, so when someone goes to message you for the first time, they have four suggested messages that they can simply click! Find out how to set this up in my Step-by-Step Guide (£2.50)

Buy from you
This is the most important yet the scariest call to action to use. At the end of the day, social media marketing is about promoting your business – but it can feel… icky?
But which framework makes you feel most seen?
- Before: I understand your struggle. I have a solution that will transform your everyday. Go to my website if you want details.
- After: I understand your struggle. I have a solution that will transform your everyday. It’ll set you back £xx, but it’ll pay for itself in no time. This is the first step to get started.
More details don’t make it more awkward; it makes it more powerful!

Writing Sales Posts is the hardest part about social media marketing for many – and a powerhour can make it so much easier!
1 hour, 1-2-1, online and we’ll create and schedule some sales posts together so you don’t have to worry about it for weeks (if not months!)
Something else
Some posts need a different kind of call to action – that’s OK too.
Sometimes you want people to go and check something out. Sometimes you want people to go and think about what you said. Sometimes you want people to go and leave you a review. Just remember: a call to action makes the post land, and helps your audience take that next step.
But does every post need a call to action? Surprisingly, no. I often create posts without any, and I do so on purpose. You see, the goal of those posts is simply to teach my audience that what I’ve got to say is worth their time. The unmentioned call to action is to stop next time you see something from me!
What works for you
So which call to action should you be using most? As always, there’s no one-size-fits-all strategy, and it entirely depends on your business, your goals, and your audience.
This is something I monitor every month for the businesses on my ongoing support packages – including those on my Hearts Package! That package is designed so you can focus on the conversations without having to worry about the logistics.
You don’t have to dive into your analytics to understand what is and isn’t working for you, you simply get a report once a month detailing what worked, what you need to keep doing, and what you should avoid.
It’s £100 a month – but it gives you everything you need to know to keep building a powerful strategy, plus you get a monthly 30-min 1-2-1 Ask Me Anything Session to turn ideas into a plan and confusion into action.
Does that sound like exactly what you need?! Get started now with a no-obligation enquiry call to make sure this is right for you.
I help passionate small business owners with their social media so that they can create a powerful and supportive space to promote their business.
